5 Ideas to Elevate Your Next Branding Photoshoot

Your brand isn't just a logo. It's a feeling. It's your story. If you're ready to stop blending in and start captivating your audience, you need more than a nice profile photo — you need a visual strategy. We believe your story is your superpower, and a powerful brand is how you share it.

Here are five ideas we come back to on almost every branding shoot — the ones that turn a photoshoot into a genuine content library for your business.

1. The Digital Expert

This moment captures you in command of your digital world. Being photographed with your laptop or phone might sound simple, but it's some of the most useful content you'll walk away with — genuinely great for your website, social content posts, and e-books, because it shows you actively doing the work your audience is hiring you for.

2. The Authentic You

Let your audience see the human behind the brand. A candid smile, a 'coffee and relax' moment, or a fun shot with your team adds relatability that a purely polished headshot can't. People buy from people — show your personality, not just your professionalism.

3. Show Your Passion

Be captured in your element — whether that's creating, connecting, or celebrating your hustle. These images build a deeper connection with your audience because they show the energy behind the business, not just the finished result.

4. Capturing You 'In Action'

Beyond the posed shots, we love capturing you in motion — mid-conversation, mid-task, genuinely in your element. These images build a deeper connection with your audience because they read as real, not staged, and they work hard across a Content Accelerator-style library where you need more than a handful of images.

5. The Story in the Details

Your brand is in the details. Capture the products you create, your process, and the tools you use. These photos elevate your brand's aesthetic and give you the small, specific content that makes a scroll-stopping grid — the kind of imagery that tells a customer this is a considered, professional business before they've read a word.

Ready to Elevate Your Brand?

We believe your story is worth celebrating, and a powerful brand is how you share it. If you're ready for images that actually represent your vision — not just a nice photo, but a library of content that works for your website, your socials, and everything in between — head to our Commercial & Branding page to see the full range of our photography services, or get in touch to book your branding photoshoot.

A Day in the Life of a Commercial Photographer: Emerald Developments' Team Headshot Day

Professional Headshots for Brisbane Development company Emerald Developments. Female powerhouse team

Before the Shoot: Understanding the Brief

Every commercial headshot day starts long before anyone steps in front of a camera. When Lia Wall, General Manager and co-founder of Emerald Developments, reached out to Life Portraits to comission their headshots, it was off the back of some genuinely exciting news — a Forbes feature and a run of HIA awards recognition for the business. She needed the headshots done in the next week, had the team organised and timing. That's the kind of client I love working with — decisive, clear on what they need, and honest about the brief from the start.

And the brief here mattered more than most. This wasn't just a website refresh. The imagery from this shoot was headed straight into Emerald Developments' HIA Building Awards submissions — meaning it needed to hold up in front of industry judges, not just Instagram followers.

The Moodboard: A Few Reference Photos Go a Long Way

You don't always need a polished Pinterest board to plan a great shoot — sometimes a handful of reference photos and a clear sense of the brand does the job. Ahead of the shoot, Lia sent through a few images to give me a feel for the tone Emerald wanted: professional enough to sit alongside a growing, award-winning building company, warm enough to still feel like the family-owned business it is.

I arrived at 7:30am — 30 minutes before the 8am call time — to set up lighting and scout the best spots through the display home before a single team member walked in. That prep window is non-negotiable for me on any commercial shoot. It's the difference between a team standing around waiting for me to find my light, and a shoot that moves.

Ever Wondered What a "Day in the Life of aof the headshot photoshoot with Emerald Developments below 📸

What the Day Actually Looked Like

We shot the session at Emerald Developments' award-winning Mediterranean-inspired display home at Morayfield — the same home that took out the 2025 HIA Queensland Display Home award. Fitting backdrop for a team about to submit for more of their own.

Across the two-hour window, we moved through individual headshots for every team member and cohesive large and smaller group shots that needed to work as a set — inside on the staircase and living space, then out the front under the home's arches for the full team photo. With 15+ people on the schedule, the job isn't just technical, it's directional: reading who's comfortable in front of a camera and who needs a lighter touch, keeping the group energy up, and making calls on the fly about framing and grouping ("maybe those 15…") without slowing the whole team down on a workday.

Why the Stakes Were Higher Than "Just Headshots"

This is the part that made the day feel different. Lia Wall's own contributions to the building industry have already been recognised with the 2024 HIA Queensland Young Achiever/Trailblazer of the Year and 2025 HIA Queensland Professional Business Woman of the Year — and in 2026, she's a finalist across three HIA Building Women categories. Emerald Developments itself has picked up the 2024 HIA Queensland Emerging Builder Award, the 2024 HIA Queensland Small Business Management Award, and a national finalist placement in the 2024 HIA Australian Emerging Builder Awards. They are a high achieving team!

When imagery is going in front of that level of industry scrutiny, it has to do real work: showing a genuine, capable team, not a stock-photo version of one. That's the standard I bring to every commercial and corporate headshot day, awards submission or not.

Ready to Document Your Team?

If your business needs team headshots that hold up wherever they're used — your website, LinkedIn, an awards submission, or your next big pitch — that's exactly the kind of day Life Portraits is built for. Billy Dawson Architects: Translating Design Intent Into Visual Assets

Architectural photography is about translating an architect’s heartbeat into visual assets.

Every curve, shape and shadow in a building is a calculated design choice — dictating how natural light falls, and how a space makes you feel. Capturing that intent takes more than a wide lens and good weather.

It takes a photographer who understands that a building is never "just a building" — it's a decision, repeated a thousand times over, about how someone should feel standing inside it.

A Relationship Built Project by Project

We've shot several projects for Billy Dawson Architects in Brisbane — his clients' finished homes, and, closer to home, the renovation of Billy's own house.

That distinction matters more than it might sound.

Photographing a client's home means representing someone else's brief back to them, faithfully and beautifully, for a portfolio that has to win the next client.

Photographing an architect's own renovation is different again — it's personal, it's unfiltered, and there's nowhere for a design choice to hide if the photography doesn't do it justice. Doing both, across multiple projects, is what an ongoing creative partnership actually looks like in practice: not a one-off booking, but a photographer who already understands your design language before you've explained the brief.

Bill Dawson Architects owner walking onto one of his finished projects in BrisbaneBrisbane architectural photography, exterior facade with natural light and shadow detail — Billy Dawson Architects

The Brief.

When we sat down with Billy Dawson Architects, the challenge wasn’t finding a striking angle. It was translating the intentionality behind their structures — the reasoning behind every line — into a single frame that reads instantly, even to someone who’s never set foot inside.

The Approach.

Premium architectural and commercial photography is one of Life Portraits’ core specialties, and it runs on the same principle as every other branding shoot we deliver: understand the strategy before you pick up the camera.

We worked through the building's design logic with the Billy Dawson team before a single frame was shot, so the final images capture atmosphere, not just geometry — the way morning light lands on a stairwell, the sightline an architect fought for, the material choice that only reads correctly from one specific angle.

The Result.

For an architecture practice, the difference between a portfolio that looks like a construction record and one that looks like a design statement comes down to exactly this: photography that was briefed with the same intentionality as the build itself.

In today’s fast-paced digital market, your imagery is your digital handshake — it builds instant authority and justifies premium value before a client has read a word of your pitch. For an architecture practice, that’s the difference between a portfolio that looks like a construction record and one that looks like a design statement.

Ambitious founders, architects, builders and designers: if your built work deserves the same level of intentionality in how it’s photographed as it took to design, this is worth the conversation.

Engineering & Construction Photography: Gerogiou Group's Bolivia Hill Bridge BUILD

On-Site Engineering & Construction Photography Isn’t a “Point and Shoot” Job

Engineering and construction companies need imagery that does real work — for tenders, stakeholder reporting, recruitment, and marketing — but most active sites are complex, fast-moving, and genuinely hazardous environments.

Handing a general photographer a camera and a hard hat isn’t a strategy, it’s a liability. On-site construction photography is its own category of commercial photography, and it demands someone who understands the craft and the site in equal measure. (It also helps having an engineer husband!)

The Project: Gerogiou Group's Bolivia Hill Bridge, NSW

One of the engineering and construction projects I still think about is Gerogiou Group’s Bolivia Hill Bridge build in NSW. Across multiple call-outs to the site, I documented stages of the cantilever bridge construction — the crew at work, the process behind a genuinely complex build, and the details that told the real story of what was happening on-site, project stage by project stage.

Directing Crews, Running On-Site Flash, and Working at Heights

One of the standout moments from the project was capturing saw nailing on the cliff face itself, then shooting the same site from a birds-eye view above the works — yes, this photographer holds her working at heights ticket.

Moments like that only happen when a photographer can direct a crew without slowing down a live build, adapt lighting and flash to unpredictable site conditions, and move confidently around machinery, height, and hazard zones. Safety is never negotiable — for the crew, or for the person behind the camera.

What Engineering & Construction Companies Should Look For in a Photographer

If you’re briefing a construction site photographer for the first time, here’s what actually matters on-site:

  • A safety-first approach, including relevant tickets and certifications — working at heights, site inductions, White Card equivalents

  • Real experience directing staff and crews on a live, working site, without slowing down the build

  • Technical lighting skills that hold up in changing on-site conditions, not just studio setups

  • An understanding of what tender, marketing, and stakeholder imagery actually needs to capture: scale, precision, process, and people

  • Reliability across multiple call-outs and project phases, from early works through to completion

Ready to Document Your Next Build?

If your engineering or construction company is ready for site photography that’s built for the realities of a live project — not just a portfolio shoot — that’s exactly where Life Portraits comes in. From single call-outs to ongoing documentation across every project phase (hello, Content Accelerator clients), we bring the same standard of safety, direction, and craft to every site.

Scroll stopping Content Photography for Cafes & Restaurants: featuring Wolff coffee, brisbane

You’re probably thinking… ‘Why waste a good coffee’ We’re thinking… Now that’s a scroll stopping image…

That’s the thing about hospitality content — most cafes and restaurants are stuck choosing between phone snaps or generic stock imagery that could be any coffee shop, anywhere. Neither tells your actual story.

We worked with Wolff Coffee in Brisbane to build a content library that does what a single hero shot never can — it captures the whole story of a venue in motion. The hands making the coffee, frothing the milk, the barista who knows every regular’s order before they say it... The beans, the grind, the pour, the pattern in the crema. Every detail that makes your venue yours, not a stock photo with your logo slapped on it.

This is what we mean when we talk about content that tells a story: staff who bring the atmosphere to life, the process behind the product, and the small, specific details that a customer scrolling past on Instagram actually stops for.

Bean Scene Magazine Feature for Wolff Coffee

Here's the part that still gets us excited every time we talk about this shoot: this wasn't just social content. It was strong enough to be picked up for a full feature in Bean Scene — Australia's leading coffee trade magazine — running alongside Wolff's Cold Wolff RTD and Concentrate range launch. That's the difference between "nice photos of your coffee" and imagery with enough craft and story behind it to earn real editorial placement.

The Bottom Line

One shoot. Three outcomes: a full social content library, a feature in Bean Scene — Australia's leading coffee trade magazine — and the hero image on Wolff Coffee's own website. That's the return on treating your content like a strategic asset instead of a once-off photo session. If you run a cafe or restaurant and you're ready for imagery that works this hard for your brand, let's talk. Book your content shoot with Life Portraits today.

Daylight to Twilight Architectural photography & how it creates the atmosphere of home.

Fifteen years behind a camera has taught me one thing above all else about photographing a home: the light isn't a backdrop. It's the subject.

For architects and builders, that distinction matters more than almost anything else in a home or building architectural photoshoot. A home photographed flat, at the wrong time of day, in the wrong light, can make six-figure joinery look budget. The same home, photographed with intention, can make its finishes, its flow and its atmosphere do the selling for you. That's the gap architectural photography is meant to close — and it's exactly what we set out to do at Ashgrove’s Coastal Cottage Co. in Brisbane, a photoshoot location and home.

twilight architectural photography Brisbane, exterior facade and pool

The Two Shots Every Architectural Gallery Needs

A strong architectural gallery isn't one style of image repeated — it's a deliberate mix of two:

The wide. This is the shot that tells the spatial story: how a room reads as you walk into it, how the ceiling height plays against the floor plan, how one space opens into the next. Wides are what let a viewer — a prospective client, a magazine editor, an award judge — understand the design intent behind a build, not just admire a pretty corner of it.

‍ ‍

The detail. This is where craftsmanship gets its due. Joinery hardware, stone veining, the way a shadow line meets a skirting board, the grain in timber cabinetry — the decisions that took a tradesperson hours and a client thousands of dollars, and that get missed entirely in a wide shot. Detail shots are what separate a portfolio that looks "nice" from one that reads as premium.

‍ Miss either one and the story's incomplete. All wides and the craftsmanship gets lost. All details and the space feels claustrophobic, disconnected. The two need each other.‍ ‍

Capturing Indoor-Outdoor Living

Brisbane homes are built for a climate that rewards blurred lines between inside and out — stacker doors, covered alfresco spaces, courtyards that function as extra living rooms for most of the year. Photographing that flow well means shooting through the transition, not just capturing each side separately: framing a shot so the eye travels from kitchen island to outdoor dining table in one uninterrupted line, letting the same light wrap both spaces.

Brisbane architectural photography, open-plan living room daylight shot, Ashgrove

‍ ‍

At the Coastal Cottage Co in Ashgrove, this was the whole point of several frames — the living areas were designed to open outward, and a photograph that respects that design intent is doing more than documenting a house. It's documenting the idea behind the house.

Why Both Lights: Daylight and Twilight

‍This is the piece that gets skipped most often, and it's the one that adds the most value to a build's visual asset library.‍ ‍

Daylight photography shows a home as it's actually lived in — true-to-life colour, honest material quality, natural light moving through the spaces the way it will every ordinary Tuesday. It's the imagery that builds trust: this is what the home genuinely looks like.

‍ ‍

Twilight photography shows a home as an experience. As the sky moves through that narrow blue-hour window, interior lighting design gets to do the work it was actually specified for — pendant lights, feature lighting, warm timber tones glowing against a darkening sky outside. Twilight is where a high-end fit-out stops looking like a product shot and starts looking aspirational.

Commission both, and you're not choosing between "accurate" and "beautiful" — you get a full-spectrum library that shows a home in every light it will actually be seen in, and gives you material for every use case: a listing that needs honesty, a portfolio that needs impact, a submission that needs both.‍

AN ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOSHOOT WITH LIFE PORTRAITS IS MORE THAN ‘JUST PHOTOS OF A HOUSE’….

Owners Mel & Neil.

This particular shoot was for the owners of Coastal Cottage Co, who needed imagery that did double duty — elevating their business's visual presence as they are a photoshoot location for hire while genuinely reflecting the home they live in. That's a brief architects and builders will recognise: the client rarely wants "just photos of the house." They want photos that work for a website, a listing, a portfolio and a personal archive, all from the one shoot.

★★★★★

"We absolutely loved working with Em! From the moment she arrived, she made us feel completely at ease and brought such a calm, friendly energy to the photoshoot. She has an incredible eye for detail and knew exactly how to capture our home in the best light.

The photos turned out even better than we imagined and have completely elevated the look of our website. Em was professional, creative, and genuinely passionate about what she does, and it really shows in the final images.

Thank you, Em, for such a wonderful experience and for creating photos that truly reflect our home and our business. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for a talented photographer!"

— Melanie Bosson, Owner, Coastal Cottage Co

How to Plan a Branding Photoshoot: Outfits, Props & Mood Boards for standout Branding Photography

You've booked your branding photoshoot. Congratulations — that's the easy part.

The part that actually determines whether you walk away with images that work as hard as you do?
What happens before the shutter clicks.

We recently worked with Bree McDonald, designer and brand developer at Secret Weapon, on her branding session for her business — and she did the prep so well we're using it as the blueprint for this guide. Here's exactly how to plan a branding photoshoot that gets you real, usable, on-brand content, not just "nice photos."

Start With Your Outfits — Plan 3 to 4 Looks

Don't overthink this into paralysis, but don't wing it either. For the 1 hour branding photoshoot, the sweet spot is 3–4 outfit looks that cover a mix of:

  • Polished professional — the look that says "you can trust me with your money/your project/your business"

  • Relaxed lifestyle — softer, more approachable, shows the human behind the brand

  • Something that represents your personality — texture, colour or a piece that's unmistakably you

Bree actually used AI to visualise her outfit combinations before the shoot, then sent them through for a second opinion — a genuinely smart way to sense-check whether a look will photograph well before you're standing in front of a camera. The simple, sleek pieces she landed on (soft whites, structured blacks) worked beautifully against the space we photographed in — Errey Haus - proof that "simple" almost always outperforms "busy" on camera. You don’t need to OVERTHINK your outfits, jeans, white shirts, blousers, dress pants, simple and YOU.

Bring Props That Are Actually You

Generic props read as generic. The props that make a branding shoot feel authentically yours are the ones tied to something real about how you work or what you love.

Case in point: Bree's signature drink is an iced latte — so she brought her own glass and a glass straw, and had her coffee ready to go on the day. It sounds like a small thing. On camera, it's the detail that makes an image feel like her life, not a stock photo. Your version of this might be a favourite notebook, the tool of your trade, a plant, your laptop with your actual work open — anything that's true to how you spend your working hours.

Our general prop checklist:

  • your laptop or phone

  • any physical marketing materials or product you sell

  • one or two personal items that feel unmistakably on-brand

Build a Mood Board — But Don't Chase Perfect

Bree came in with a Pinterest board and a screenshot of poses she liked, and prefaced the whole thing with "hope they're not too cliché." They weren't — and even if they had been, that's exactly what a good branding photographer is for. Send us your inspiration ahead of time. We'll use it as a starting point, then adapt it to suit the photoshoot space, your body language and your brand, so the end result feels tailored rather than copied.

A mood board doesn't need to be a polished Canva creation. A folder of screenshots, a Pinterest board, or a few images you've saved for two years and never told anyone about — all of it is useful. The goal isn't to recreate someone else's photo. It's to give us a shared visual language for the session.

Let Go of the Script Once You're On Set

Here's the part almost everyone underestimates: you don't need to have this figured out on the day. Bree told us afterwards, only half-joking, that we'd "done a brilliant job with a very difficult subject" — self-conscious about false lashes, squinting, "strange" hands, the works. From behind the camera, none of that was true. She was an absolute dream to work with, and the images prove it.

Direction on the day is often as simple as it is strange. Feeling too in your own head to smile naturally? Say "spaghetti." It sounds ridiculous — Bree said as much herself afterwards — but it reliably knocks people out of the stiff, camera-aware version of their smile and into the real one. Small, weird cues like that do more work than any pose instruction.

That's the pattern with almost every branding session: the nerves walking in have nothing to do with how the photos turn out. Bring your outfits, bring your props, bring your mood board — and then let the guidance of Life Portraits take over. Getting out of your comfort zone in front of a camera is, without exception, the part clients are proudest of afterwards.

The Result: A Gallery That Actually Works for Your Brand

When the prep is right, the gallery reflects it — genuine variety, a mix of posed and candid, images that work for a website hero, a LinkedIn banner, an Instagram grid and everything in between. That's the real measure of a successful branding photoshoot:not one perfect photo, but a library of usable, on-brand content that sounds and looks like you. That’s the Life Portraits difference.

‍ ‍

★★★★★

"I honestly can't recommend Em from Life Portraits highly enough! From the moment we met, it felt like we'd known each other for years. She has such a warm, genuine personality that instantly puts you at ease and somehow makes standing in front of a camera feel far less daunting. As someone who isn't comfortable being photographed, that was absolutely invaluable.

Em is incredibly patient, encouraging and so much fun to work with. She has an amazing ability to see the best in you and gently guides you throughout the shoot – even encouraging you to say random words like 'spaghetti' when you start getting too much in your own head! It sounds crazy, but it genuinely works ;) Nothing ever felt rushed and she took the time to make sure every detail was just right.

My brand shoot exceeded every expectation and I walked away not only with photographs I love, but with a genuinely wonderful experience. If you're looking for someone to capture your business, your brand or simply the best version of you... Em is the photographer you want behind the camera."

Documenting the ‘Day in the Life of a Doctor’: MACKAY NG GyneHealth

In the medical and healthcare industry, your visual branding has a very difficult job to do. It needs to command absolute, clinical authority, while simultaneously radiating warmth, compassion, and approachability.

When a patient is looking for a fertility specialist or an obstetrician, they aren't just looking for credentials—they are looking for a team they can trust with their life and their future family.

Recently, the Life Portraits team packed our bags and traveled to Mackay, Queensland, to partner with the incredible team at NG GyneHealth, one of the state’s most successful fertility, obstetrics, and gynaecology clinics.

Led by Dr. Naguesh Gaunekar and Dr. Sally Rodrigues, they needed a comprehensive visual asset library to elevate their marketing, update their website, and showcase their state-of-the-art care. But coordinating multiple photographers for different needs—clinical, lifestyle, headshots, and personal branding—is a logistical nightmare for a busy medical practice.

That is where our "One Creative Partner" approach comes in. Here is how we documented an entire medical brand from the operating theatre to the consultation room, all in one seamless, highly strategic day.

1. The Operating Theatre: Documenting the Miracle of Birth

Medical photography requires a highly specific skill set. You have to understand hospital protocols, maintain sterile boundaries, and move quietly in high-stakes environments—all while anticipating the shot.

We were incredibly privileged to join Dr. Naguesh in the hospital to document a live C-section with the patience’s consent. Capturing these moments respectfully for marketing and educational purposes proves a clinic's capability and expertise in a way that words simply cannot. It shows real care, real precision, and the profound impact of what they do every single day - imagery to be used as a specialist in the fertility health space.

2. The Thought Leader: Speaker Profiles & Personal Branding

Beyond the clinic, Dr. Naguesh Gaunekar and Dr. Sally Rodrigues are highly respected voices in his field, regularly speaking at medical conferences and events. An industry-leading speaker needs imagery that matches their expertise.

We carved out time during our shoot to expertly direct high-end, authoritative branding portraits specifically for their speaking engagements and PR features. These aren't standard hospital ID badge photos; they are dynamic, executive portraits designed to build instant trust and visual authority on a global stage. We did some solo images featuring their involvement with Mater Hospital as well as some in the clinic with the team and in their office.

3. The Clinic Experience: Lifestyle & Marketing Imagery

Walking into a fertility or obstetrics clinic can be an overwhelming experience for new patients. NG GyneHealth prides itself on compassionate, individualised care in a supportive setting, and their website imagery needed to reflect that exact feeling.

We directed authentic, high-energy lifestyle imagery featuring the staff interacting, patient consultations, and the welcoming environment of the clinic itself. This scroll-stopping content is vital for social media and website builds because it allows a patient to "experience" the warmth of the clinic before they even pick up the phone to book an appointment.

4. The Team: Cohesive Branding & Headshots

A brand is only as strong as the people behind it. To tie the entire visual library together, we captured clean, cohesive, and professional headshots of the entire NG GyneHealth team. From the specialist doctors to the welcoming reception staff, ensuring everyone has a polished, unified look builds incredible trust and brand consistency across the board.

The "One Photographer" Advantage

For medical and health practices, childcare centres, and corporate brands, time is quite literally money.

By acting as your single creative director for the entire day, we eliminate the stress of disjointed marketing. We ensure that the lighting, the aesthetic, and the brand message remain perfectly consistent whether we are shooting a high-pressure surgical procedure, a sleek speaker profile, or an engaging social media campaign.

The result for NG GyneHealth? A massive, premium visual asset library ready to deploy across their new website, advertising campaigns, and speaking engagements for the next year—all captured in one expertly directed trip to Mackay.

Does your medical practice or business need a complete visual overhaul? Stop the social media scramble and let us build your visual authority. We travel across Australia to provide stress-free, full-service commercial shoots for ambitious brands.

When PR Calls: Capturing Press-Ready Branding Imagery in 30 Minutes for Mimi Haircare

There is nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of a massive business milestone.

Recently, we had the absolute pleasure of working with the incredible Emma MacKenzie, the powerhouse founder behind Mimi Haircare for Kids. Emma’s story is nothing short of inspiring: transitioning from a stay-at-home mum to completely disrupting the $1.27 billion Australian haircare market. Her plant-based, gentle, and fun kids' haircare line was gearing up for a massive national launch on the shelves of Coles supermarkets.

When major PR opportunities like this knock on your door, national publications don’t just want your story—they need high-resolution, professional, and engaging imagery to run alongside it. And they usually need it yesterday.

That is exactly where Life Portraits steps in.

Emma’s Website - Mini Haircare.

The Brief: High-Impact Lifestyle Imagery with a Fast Turnaround

In the fast-paced world of retail and PR, timelines are tight. Emma needed fresh, authoritative, yet approachable founder imagery that captured her essence as a successful "mumpreneur" and the vibrant, playful nature of the Mimi brand in front of Coles, to celebrate the launch of her products in the store.

The catch? We needed to execute this onsite, in just 30 minutes, and have the final gallery fully edited, polished, and ready for national publishing within a few days.

The Execution: 30 Minutes on the Clock

As commercial and branding photographers, we know that business owners don't have hours to spare—especially when they are busy launching into one of Australia's biggest supermarket chains!

Our goal was to make this as seamless and stress-free for Emma as possible. We arrived onsite, instantly assessed the best natural light, angles to show off the store, but no additional people (nice and early start before the rush), set up our professional onsite studio lighting to ensure a high-end editorial feel, and founder, Emily, got straight to work.

Because we expertly direct our clients through every single pose and movement, Emma didn't have to overthink a thing. We captured a versatile mix of:

  • Polished Headshots: Perfect for formal press releases and executive bios.

  • Product Integration Shots: Highlighting the bright, iconic Mimi Haircare bottles in an authentic way alongside her kids smiling in their school uniforms. Her standing in the isle with in on the shelves.

  • Lifestyle & Movement Imagery: Capturing Emma and the kids walking out of the store happy about their purchase.

In just half an hour, we wrapped the shoot, leaving Emma to get back to running her empire.

The Result: From the Studio to National News

We delivered the fully edited, high-resolution gallery well within the week, ensuring Emma's PR team had exactly what they needed to secure top-tier press.

Seeing our imagery hit the digital press was incredible! The photos were beautifully featured across major national media, including:

  • 7News:"From stay-at-home mum to supermarket shelves: meet the founder behind Australia’s fastest-growing kids’ haircare brand"

  • Retail Beauty:"Aussie mum disrupts $1.27B haircare market as Mimi launches nationally in Coles"

When you read these articles, the imagery does exactly what it is supposed to do: it stops the scroll, builds immediate trust, and puts a confident, relatable face to a booming national brand.

Why Your Business Needs a PR and marketing Image Library

Emma’s success with Mimi Haircare is the perfect example of why having a modern, updated library of professional branding imagery is non-negotiable.

When 7News or industry publications reach out to feature your business, you cannot send them a blurry iPhone selfie or a corporate headshot from five years ago. You need premium, storytelling visuals that reflect the current success and quality of your brand.

Whether you need a massive content overhaul or a fast-turnaround, 30-minute PR shoot to meet a publishing deadline, we know how to deliver commercial imagery that makes an impact.

Evolving a Brand Over 5 Years: Creative Concept BRANDING Photography with Pearly Sprinkles form Zumbos just desserts

When your brand is built on sugar, vibrant colors, and unapologetic creativity, a boring, stiff corporate headshot simply won’t cut it. Your visual identity needs to be as sweet, loud, and irresistible as the art you create.

For the past five years, Life Portraits has had the absolute privilege of being the official branding photography team for the incredible Pearly Sprinkles.

You might first recognize her as the wildly talented dessert queen from the hit TV show Zumbo’s Just Desserts. But over the last half-decade, we’ve watched (and documented!) her evolve into so much more: a mixed-media artist, illustrator, author, and a passionate advocate for breaking down mental health stigmas... deliciously!

The Brief: Documenting the "Neurodivergent Unicorn"

When Pearly first stepped in front of our lenses, the vision was clear: we needed to capture the chaotic, colorful, and joyful energy of her brand. Pearly describes herself as an "overly-loud, anxious, neurodivergent unicorn," and her brand photography needed to reflect exactly that.

Over the course of 5 years and multiple creative shoots, we have completely thrown the traditional "business photoshoot" rulebook out the window.

A 5-Year Visual Evolution

This is the true power of finding a commercial photographer who gets you.

Over five years, a business—and the founder behind it—changes drastically. Not only did we document Pearly's professional pivot from making cakes to launching her incredible debut book, Emotional Support Cookie, and her fondant affirmation card decks, but we also captured her most beautiful personal milestones.

Because personal branding is so deeply tied to the woman behind the business, we documented Pearly's journey into motherhood through a stunning, creative milk bath series. Capturing her pre-pregnancy, glowing during her pregnancy, and radiantly post-partum with her newborn allowed us to show the beautiful, raw evolution of the artist alongside her brand.

More Than Just Photography: A Creative Friendship

When you build a 5-year visual partnership with a client, the relationship goes far beyond simply showing up with a camera. It becomes a true, collaborative friendship.

Pearly recently launched her new website, and we were absolutely blown away and humbled to see that she dedicated an entire gallery page to our work together, writing the below.

Seeing our vibrant imagery—from the pink swimsuit and fairy floss era to the black-balloon cake smash—displayed so beautifully on her site is exactly why we do what we do. It proves that when you fully trust your photographer to execute a wild, out-of-the-box vision, you create visual magic that lasts for years.

One of my greatest collabative and creative achievements are the many times I have worked with Life Portraits Photography. Emily, you continue to amaze me as a professional, a creative and a friend
— Pearly Sprinkles

Bringing the Creative Concept to Life

Creative concept photography is our absolute jam. For Pearly, we didn't just want her standing in a kitchen; we wanted to build a visual world around her art.

Throughout our shoots, we heavily utilised:

  • Bold, contrasting studio backdrops to make her colorful hair, outfits, and fondant creations pop.

  • Dynamic, unapologetic posing that perfectly reflects her quirky, lovable, and highly energetic personality.

  • Expert lighting to ensure the textures of her sugar art looked high-end, professional, and ready for publication.

By expertly directing her through every movement, we ensured she looked confident, powerful, and completely in her element as a creative founder.

Pearly’s about section on her website featuring our feature image.

Why You Need a Long-Term Visual Partner

Pearly’s success is the perfect example of why treating your branding photography as a long-term investment pays off.

Your business is going to grow, pivot, and launch new things. Having a trusted photography team who understands your brand’s DNA means that every time you launch a new product, write a book, or rebrand, your visual marketing is guaranteed to hit the mark effortlessly.

Are you a creative founder ready to build a visual world that actually looks and feels like you? Stop settling for standard headshots.

15 Years, 1,000+ Stories: How Expert Direction Transforms Brand Imagery

Why Your Brand Needs a Director, Not Just a Photographer

From Vision to Reality: How We Handle the Heavy Lifting of Your Brand Shoot

Most business owners have a vision, but the logistics of a commercial or lifestyle photoshoot can be overwhelming. Finding the location, managing the schedule, and worrying about every tiny detail often distracts you from actually enjoying the experience.

More Than a Photographer—A Strategic Partner

With 15 years behind the lens, I know that a successful shoot is won in the preparation. As your Confidence Partner, I take on the role of "Director" to handle the heavy lifting, from sourcing locations to organising the flow of the day. This allows you to stay in your zone of genius while I bring your brand’s story to life.

Case Study: Do1More Fitness Wear E-Commerce Branding Session

We recently were commissioned by founder Courtney Barton from Do1More to create a content library of their products that commands attention. Here is what she had to say about the Life Portraits experience:

"Em and the Life Portraits Team have taken care of photography for us for years. Her seamless planning for shoots is next level. Em organises the shoot location for us and does all the heavy lifting with the organisation of the day. On the day, Em keeps a close eye on our models to make sure that our vision comes to life... Em sweats the small stuff, and that matters in a photographer, because the small details matter when you are selling a product online."Courtney Barton, Do1More Founder

The Package: The Immersion (Half-Day) Accelerator

Obsessed Gymwear booked our Immersion Package, a 4-hour strategic half-day designed specifically to generate a substantial library of assets for several months of marketing.

Before we even picked up a camera, we started with a Brand Blueprint Session. We collaborated closely with their team to understand their brand identity, target audience, and current promotional objectives. This ensured every single shot and video clip served a direct business purpose.

During the 4-hour studio session, we moved fast. We captured:

  • High-Resolution Photography: Clean, dynamic, and expertly lit imagery for their e-commerce website, product listings, and promotional campaigns.

  • RAW Video Footage Assets: High-quality, aesthetic B-roll footage ready to be instantly repurposed into Reels and TikToks with trending audio.

By combining photo and video into one seamless production, Obsessed Gymwear walked away with the visual authority to fuel their marketing for months.

Launching a Podcast? Why You Need Main Character Energy for Your Marketing Imagery - Featuring the EmpowHer Podcast

Launching a new podcast is a massive business milestone. You spend months mapping out the episodes, investing in the right audio gear, and defining exactly who you are speaking to. But when it comes time to hit "Publish" on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, what is the first thing your audience sees?

Your podcast cover art and your promotional imagery.

If your marketing collateral doesn’t immediately radiate authority, energy, and connection, you will lose listeners before they even hit play.

Recently, we had the powerhouse coaching duo Bec and Loz step into the Life Portraits studio to shoot the official marketing imagery for their highly anticipated new show: The EmpowHer Podcast.

The Brief: Creative, Vibrant, and Unapologetically Confident

Bec and Loz are not your average coaches. They are on a mission to help high-achieving women reach their full potential, both mentally and physically.

  • Bec brings absolute authority to the realm of female health and fitness. As a former IFBB bikini champion, she knows exactly what it takes to build discipline, strength, and a healthier lifestyle.

  • Loz, the show’s dedicated confidence coach, specializes in helping driven, high-achieving women discover their true selves and recognize their intrinsic worth.

Together, their dynamic is magnetic. Their brief to us was simple but crucial: they needed creative, vibrant, and professional content to use across their podcast marketing and social media to maximize their launch reach. A stiff, corporate headshot of the two of them standing in front of a white wall simply wasn't going to cut it.

The Studio Experience: All Work, All Play

When you are a co-hosting duo, your imagery needs to capture your individual expertise and the unique chemistry you share when the mics are hot.

During their studio session, we stepped in as their official hype squad and creative directors. We didn't just tell them to "smile for the camera"; we expertly directed their posing, set up dynamic, high-end studio lighting, and kept the energy levels through the roof.

We made sure to capture a versatile content library for their launch, including:

  • The Hero Shots: Striking, high-contrast imagery designed perfectly for podcast cover art and Spotify thumbnails.

  • The Solo Authority: Individual branding portraits highlighting Bec’s fitness expertise and Loz’s approachable, confident coaching vibe.

  • The 'Behind the Mic' Energy: Fun, candid-style shots that capture the exact energy listeners can expect when they tune in.

Why Podcast Hosts Need a Dedicated Branding Shoot

In a sea of millions of podcasts, your visual branding is what makes a scroller stop and say, "I need to hear what these women have to say."

Whether you need bold imagery to launch a brand new show, or you are looking to rebrand an existing podcast to attract higher-tier guests and sponsorships, your visuals need to match the quality of your audio.

At Life Portraits, we do all the heavy lifting. We handle the creative direction, the lighting, and the posing, so you and your co-host can just show up, step into your CEO energy, and walk away with a premium gallery of marketing collateral.

Are you a coach or creative launching your next big project?

Building Trust Through the Lens: Personal Branding for Health & Nutrition Coach Emily Hearn

When you are a health, fitness, or nutrition coach, your business is deeply personal. You are asking clients to trust you with their bodies, their habits, and their vulnerabilities.

Before a potential client ever books a consultation or downloads your program, they look at your website and social media to answer one subconscious question: "Can I trust this person?" If your marketing imagery consists of stiff, outdated corporate headshots or low-quality iPhone selfies, you are making it harder for your ideal clients to connect with you. You need visuals that radiate both professional authority and approachable warmth.

No one understands this better than the incredible Emily Hearn, a prolific Health and Nutrition Coach and one of our long-term Life Portraits clients!

The Power of a Long-Term Visual Partnership

At Life Portraits, we specialise in the health, fitness, and wellness industries. We know that as a coach, your business doesn't stay stagnant—it evolves. You launch new coaching programs, you write e-books, you start podcasts, and your messaging refines over time.

That is exactly why we love building long-term relationships with our clients. We have had the absolute privilege of working with Emily Hearn across multiple shoots over the years. Because we have built that creative trust, she never has to start from scratch when she steps into the studio. We already know her best angles, her brand's aesthetic, and her core messaging.

For her latest personal branding session, the goal was to capture the next elevated era of her coaching business: refined, deeply knowledgeable, yet incredibly welcoming.

3 Things Every Health & Wellness Brand Shoot Needs

When we conceptualize a shoot for a health and nutrition specialist like Emily, we don't just take pretty photos. We strategically build a versatile content library.

If you are a wellness professional planning your next shoot, here are three essential visual pillars you need to capture:

1. The "Consultation" Vibe (Lifestyle Imagery) Your clients need to visualize what it feels like to work with you. We expertly direct our coaches through mock-consultation setups—laughing with a coffee cup, writing in a journal, or working on a laptop. This breaks down the clinical barrier and makes you look highly approachable.

2. The "Elements of the Trade" (Dynamic Props) We always encourage our wellness clients to bring props that tell their story. For Emily, this meant incorporating fresh, vibrant foods, recipe books, and her coaching tools. These detailed shots are perfect for website banners, Instagram carousels, and blog graphics.

3. The Authority Headshot Forget the grey backdrop and the crossed arms. A modern authority headshot uses beautiful, natural-looking light and relaxed posing to establish you as the premium expert in your specific fitness or nutrition niche.

Expert Direction for Even the most Camera-Shy Coach

Most health professionals feel completely confident in a gym or a clinic, but freeze the second a professional camera is pointed at them. This is completely normal.

Our job as your Confidence Partner and Director is to handle the heavy lifting. During Emily’s shoot, we managed the lighting, the studio sets, and the posing direction so she could simply step into her CEO energy and enjoy the process. When you feel relaxed and hyped up behind the scenes, it immediately translates into authentic, powerful imagery on screen.

Ready to Elevate Your Wellness Brand?

Your expertise deserves to be seen. If you are a PT, nutritionist, or wellness coach relying on disjointed iPhone photos, it is time to build a visual world that actually reflects the premium quality of your coaching.

Whether you need a full rebrand or a massive content library to fuel your social media for months, we are your strategic partners.

Coached By Emily was going through a complete restructure of the business and as a result, we needed an entire website refresh as we were going in a slightly different direction.

I’ve worked with Life Portraits in my business projects for over 3 years now and I will never work with any other photography company. They actually did my commercial shoot for the first relaunch of my website and now for my second. The quality of their work is absolutely IMPECCABLE and I cannot recommend them higher.

Life Portraits isn’t just a photography company... they’re so so so much more than that. They EMPOWER every single individual that engages in their services no matter what they’re wanting and allow them to express exactly what they’re trying to through a lense. They allow us to have a voice and share a story or purpose through imagery and for that I am forever grateful!”

Selling the Sweat: Behind the Scenes of a High-Energy e-commerce Activewear Shoot with Strength Sanctuary gym

COME BEHIND THE SCENES WITH FOUNDER, EMILY, ON A LIFESTYLE PRODUCT PHOTOSHOOT WORKING WITH THE TEAM AT STRENGTH SANCTUARY FOR THE LAUNCH OF SANC WEAR, THEIR NEW FITNESS CLOTHING RANGE.

Selling fitness apparel online is a fiercely competitive game. When your customers are scrolling Instagram or browsing your website, they can’t feel the buttery-soft fabric, they can’t check the compression, and they definitely can’t test if the leggings are actually squat-proof.

The only thing doing the heavy lifting for your sales? Your visual marketing.

If your product imagery consists of stiff, lifeless mannequins or awkward, uninspired posing, your ideal customers are going to scroll right past. To sell activewear, you have to sell the lifestyle, the movement, and the energy behind the brand.

That is exactly what we set out to do when the incredible team at Strength Sanctuary brought Life Portraits on board to shoot their latest fitness clothing range.

BRIEF: Strength Sanctuary wanted to capture their new fitness range for their gym, Sanc Wear, as a clothing range this is fun, edgy, you can wear as everyday clothing as well as at the gym. They wanted to capture the full colour range and details of the products across a range of models, male and female.

PHOTOSHOOT: We created a huge variety of imagery over a 2 hour period, capturing each coloured piece as a stand alone in many different poses as well as some more creative looks with lighting and cars, and in the gym. Watch our behind the scenes video below.

The Result: A Scroll-Stopping Content Library

Strength Sanctuary walked away with a comprehensive, premium gallery of commercial imagery ready for immediate deployment across their website, email marketing, and social media campaigns.

When you invest in expert direction, your activewear stops looking like just another piece of clothing and starts looking like a premium, must-have lifestyle.

“Emily was great, she made everyone feel so natural and calm” - Oran - Owner

Kymoo Sports: Brightening the Lives of Real Women: Brisbane Fitness & Personal Branding Imagery

I recently had the opportunity of working with the beautiful Suzi from the Middle East, on her active wear brand Kymoo Sport. Kymoo Sport is the UAE's first body positive and body inclusive active wear brand designed for those who dare to stand out! We created a vibrant array of images for her new campaign as well as new content for her social media and website.

When working commercially for a clothing brand, I like to get to know the look, feel and personality of the person that would be wearing the clothing. Suzi's brand was bright, open, fun and screamed energy which is what I wanted to channel in her images.

We used some beautiful nature backdrops throughout Brisbane to create the perfect backdrop for the clothing to shine. I got to work with some beautiful, down to earth women on the campaign and together we created a beautiful set of images.
