Recycled by Wendy: A Small Fashion Business with a Touch of History & Love!

We first me the beautiful Wendy at a Women’s Weekly High Tea event in Brisbane City for International Women’s Day. We were blown away by her stall of clothing, all preowned wonders, fabrics, belts, accessories from all over the world that she creates into new pieces and has pre-loved old classics. Our girls group went a little wild and ended up wearing some of the outfits out that night haha

We were so blown away by Wendy’s talent and passion for her craft! We followed her on instagram and facebook and said we’d keep in touch and come and visit again to see her newest creations. We kept our word!

Wendy, with the help of her daughter Nicky, held an amazing little pop-up day at her home in Manly on Saturday. As it was also my 28th Birthday, the girls surprised me with a beautiful morning out for breakfast followed by some vintage shopping at Wendy’s.

We were so happy to see Wendy in her beautiful artistic home. She has decor in her home from all over the world, reflecting her travels, her creativity and her love of colour, fabrics and textiles. I was so inspired.

I had my little Canon m5 with me with a 22mm prime f2 lens. This is my ‘being able to enjoy life’s moments while still capturing imagery’ camera haha. It’s small, it fits in my bag, has a nice wide aperture of f2 which means its great in low light conditions. I captured some of the fun we had at Wendy’s as well as the fun the girls were having. I passed the camera around and we all enjoyed a bit of fun in front of the camera.

Wendy provided some scones, tea and lots of laughs. What a great morning! If you want to experience some unusual and unique vintage fashion, you MUST visit ‘Recycled by Wendy’ at https://www.facebook.com/recycledbywendy/ or on instagram https://www.instagram.com/recycledbywendy/

We all walked out of there with lots of bags of goodies! What a great day! Thank you Wendy for having us!

Capturing a woman's journey through life: Brisbane Maternity Photography

Since meeting and becoming ‘love at first site’ friends many years ago at James Cook University in Townsville, Leslie has been one of my closest friends and even though we live in different states we still always reconnect for our most special moments in life.

I have witnessed and captured her university fun, graduation with her family visiting from America (having moved to Australia originally to study), her hens day fun, being a bridesmaid at the wedding but also sneaking the behind the scenes photos on the day while Andy photographed the wedding….. And now the next chapter for her and her partner Ben, having a BABY!

I was honoured to capture these special moments for them and of course we captured them at their most special place, the beach. They live and breath protecting the environment, they are advocates for waste reduction, they run regular beach clean ups and they have so much purpose in their jobs and outside their roles to make change! They are truly inspiring people…

For anyone that knows Leslie and Ben, they know their love is infectious and they are one of the most beautiful couples I’ve met! See some of our favs from their session below captured at Little Bay in Sydney.

A Real Indian Wedding Experience: Brisbane Portrait & Commercial Photographers

It’s not every day that you get the opportunity to travel to India with your Indian friends to be a part of a traditional Indian wedding. When Amit and PJ jokingly said over dinner that we should come, at first we laughed and said “that would be unreal” and then we though more after they said the offer was there. How could we not!

In reflection of this trip, this experience was an opportunity of a lifetime, travelling to India with our friends for 2 weeks of celebrations for a traditional Indian Wedding, their cousins wedding.

Our first stop was Mumbai - Staying in a lovely 5 star hotel and venturing out to explore the streets, to do some shopping for traditional clothing and try some of their famous food.

We then flew to their hometown of Goa - We stayed mostly in Magao with our friends family and each day when we didn't have wedding events, they organised a driver for us! We travelled through North and South Goa, exploring their beaches and most renowned attractions and of course ate at some incredible traditional indian shacks and restaurants.

While in Goa, we got to be part of the wedding events of PJ and Amit's family. Including the Sangeet Dance event, ladies Henna day, traditional male and female religious functions, the wedding itself and the reception. All spread over a 2 week period.

With a gap in the wedding events, my partner, Corey, and I flew to Delhi and booked a fully personalised 4 day Golden Triangle tour - Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. This opened us up to the culture and history of India and some of the unreal monuments this country has to offer.

See an insight into our travels below, explaining some of the wedding events and traditions, some of the memories, food and the indian lifestyle captured on the trip. Each section details where it is in India and some explain the meaning behind the images. I hope you enjoy this visual journey as much as I loved taking it!

Exploring Goa

During our time in India we were based in Goa with our friends families. We spent some time in South Goa in Margao, exploring the beaches and attractions, markets and shops of this area and then to North Goa to Panjim to explore the Latin area, old Goa and the shopping and monuments.

The Sangeet

The pre-wedding dance celebratory event. This musical night is a celebration of the union of not only the couple but the bonding of both families. The families choreographed 14 dances to display on stage to the family, it was UNREAL!

Mehndi Day

Mehndi Day before the Wedding - A form of body art originating from the Indian subcontinent, in which decorative designs are created on a person's body, using a paste, created from the powdered dry leaves of the henna plant.

The Wedding

The Wedding is the official traditional religious function where the bride and groom’s families and friends witness the marriage of Sanju and Sohal. There are many traditional processes including the families gifting the bride/groom gold, jewellery and other gifts. The bride and groom do not see each other through these religious events until they are on stage where they are revealed to each other. Watching these moments was incredible!

Delhi

To begin our 4 day Golden Triangle tour we flew from Goa to Delhi. We began the day nice and early at 7am starting at Qutub Minar with no one in site. I was blown away by this building and it’s unique structure and details. We also visited the Indian Gate, Jama Masjid (Friday Mosque), took a rickshaw through Old Delhi, visited the site of Gandhi’s ashes, the Lotus temple and some local shops of craftwork. Our driver then began the 4 hour journey to Agra, stopping at the Akshardam Temple on the way out.

Agra

Arriving at our 5 star hotel Jaypee Palace was incredible! Marble featured throughout, beautiful views over the 25 acre property, surrounded in grasslands, pools and our room featuring an unreal balcony over the views. We rested up that night ready for our 5.30am rise to catch the Taj Mahal at sunrise! Witnessing the Taj Mahal in person was incredible, especially capturing it’s beauty at sunrise. After this unreal experience we also explored the red fort, local craftsman stores and saw a lot of the major buildings in Agra. After a full morning in Agra, we hit the road with our driver to Jaipur, seeing the famous Step Well on the way there.

Jaipur

Jaipur was my most anticipated place to see with it’s pink city, beautiful buildings and unreal monuments. We started our morning with a great buffet breakfast at our 5 star hotel Holiday Inn Jaipur, then took on the day with a tour of the Amber fort, probably one of the most impressive buildings Corey and I have both witnessed. What used to be a palace is now a large fort that is incredible to see! We then ventured through the Pink City seeing the Palace of Winds, we visited a textiles manufacturer and saw how they created carpets and printed clothing and finished the day with a tour through the incredible Jaipur Palace. Corey and I got an Olla around the city and went for a romantic dinner at the rooftop Peacock Restaurant in the city. It was unreal! What a way to end the trip.

Behind the Scenes on a Fitness & Branding Studio Day: Brisbane Fitness Photography | Brisbane Corporate Photography

Yesterday was a lot of FUN! After giving up our studio some time ago due to doing a lot of our client work on location, we booked a full day of client work and hired the Fox Street Studio to create some magic.

We had client’s with some fun ideas that we wanted to make a reality and the studio was the perfect place to make it happen. We had fitness competitors, nutritionists for branding and health influencers and created a great array of imagery!

Check out some of the fun below. Andy and I also jumped in for a few fun shots of us too! haha

A big thanks to our helpers on the day - Bella and Dex and Fox Street Studio for a great space. Amazing job to our clients Sam, Gerard, Taylor, Tara and Teanna.

How a Strong, Supportive Group of Women Can Help you Succeed: Brisbane Fitness Photography

It’s not often that I get to work with a group of ladies that are their prime physical health ready to compete in a bodybuilding contest. Usually I work with athletes, weight loss transformation clients and ladies in boudoir style capturing them individually.

Having competed in the past, I didn’t have a ‘team’ of ladies to help me through or offer support and after meeting this unreal group of women, I wish I had of. I was blown away when I met the ladies of Team HFS, run by PT Joey Cantlin. 5 unreal, beautiful, happy and supportive women banding together to celebrate their achievements with a photoshoot.

The vibe of these ladies was just incredible! The smiles, the laughs, those bodies haha During their competition prep, they have come together as a team for support, to help each other through the ups and downs and also created a close-nit social group from a shared interest.

I am now pushing for ladies to collaborate together and book a shoot with friends to celebrate achievements, friendships and reaching a goal together. It’s a great way to stay accountable and also acts as an unreal support group to help you reach your goals.

So lets say yes to more body confidence, women supporting women, healthy bodies, prioritising your health and fitness and sharing this love with others, celebrating your successes and documenting this journey with a photoshoot.

As one of Brisbane’s fitness, boudoir and beauty photographers, we specialise in individual and group photoshoots, capturing your hard work and physiques. See some of my favourites below of the shoot <3

A Fitness Goal Can Change Your Life, No Matter What Age! Brisbane Fitness Photography

I have learnt first hand from personal experience competing myself and through the amazing people I get to photograph, that bodybuilding and fitness is more than just showing of your body….

It’s about prioritising your health, staying accountable, motivating yourself, making sacrifices to reach a goal and much more. However, what a lot of people don’t understand about the industry, is that it gives you focus when you may be experiencing hard times, up and down emotions or lacking motivation in life. I have heard many stories from clients and friends of how their health journey has helped their lives, their confidence and get over traumatic experiences in life.

This brings me to my photoshoot with the amazing Mel. She is 43, she’s been through some life experiences and fitness has helped her focus, stay positive and show herself that she can reach her goals.

This was her first photoshoot and a very big thing for her. I was beyond grateful that I was able to capture these moments and be a part of her journey. Travelling all the way from Gladstone, we created some beautiful and strong imagery of Mel’s physique, a celebration of her body and how far she’s come in her life!

Congratulations again Mel, so proud of you for doing this.

“Your body can accept anything you put it through as long as your mind is limitless”

The White Cottage Flower Farm: Tenterfield's Hidden Gem - Brisbane Commercial & Portrait Photographers

This week I had the chance to have a few day getaway to Tenterfield to see my partner and for a little country retreat. Between business work, I set out on foot to explore the town with its beautiful historical look and feel, tree lined streets, roses and flower gardens and old buildings. I also explored the ‘Tenterfield’ instagram location tag to see if I could find some hidden gems from the locals… and I did!

It is here that I found the White Cottage Flower Farm. The farm is the home of Mandy & Hamish Reid, passionate lovers of cottage gardens, flower farming and vintage and farmhouse wares. I contacted with Mandy to see if I could come and visit, take some photographs and setup my laptop for the afternoon for some work and she was more than happy for me to do so.

I got to know Mandy & Hamish’ story and had to share it with you all! The couple have lived in Tenterfield for 23 years and only in the past 8 years they’ve been selling plants/flowers at their nursery and vintage homewares and only the past year have they opened up the flower farm.

Before living in Tenterfield they weren’t big into gardening, they were inspired by the beauty of the region, cool climates and the gardens in Tenterfield.

When Mandy & Hamish first started the project, the beautiful ‘White Cottage’ that is one of the main features of the garden was actually a colourbond shed and they transformed it into the beautiful nursery and homewares space that it is now. It is filled with stunning natural light, stained glass windows, flowers and vintage homewares.

The White Cottage is open to the public Tuesday - Sunday, 9am-5pm where visitors can pick their own fresh flowers, explore the gardens and purchase items from the vintage wares and also from the nursery. For those that don’t have a garden they can come to the cottage and pick their own varieties, such a priceless thing to do! I explored the garden and got to experience this first hand, the smells, the nature, the sounds, it was glorious.

The garden is a passion for both Mandy & Hamish, where they share the duties between them. Hamish does the maintenance on the garden and heavy lifting while Mandy taken great pride in planting, designing and styling the homewares store. The garden is filled with 120 David Austin Roses, 80 Peony Roses, foxgloves, sweet peas and all cottage perennial flowers.

On occasions Mandy hosts floral workshops and painting workshops for those of the community and people from the around the region attend. She has a great following on instagram, great branding and people come from far and wide to see the gardens.

If you’re in the region, it’s a MUST SEE! See some images below.

When the Universe watches over soul mates on their Wedding Day: Leslie + Ben Reid

Being in a job where you regularly get to meet couples in love can be really interesting.

There are 'opposite couples' who are so different that they leave you scratching your head wondering how they work yet, proving that opposites attract, they do. You have 'reserved couples' who are very much in love but don’t share this overly in public, you have 'extrovert couples' who shout their love from the rooftops…. And then you have couples who as soon as you meet them you just know they were made for each other.

One such couple is Leslie and Ben. I was lucky enough to photograph their beach wedding on Racecourse Beach, in Ulladulla, NSW and from the very first moment, it was obvious they were soul mates and meant to be together…. And it seemed the Universe felt exactly the same way, putting on a special show making this one of the most memorable of wedding days.

From beginning to end Leslie had a magical smile, the type of smile that lightens a room. You could be standing behind her ten feet away and you would still know she was grinning like the Cheshire Cat.

That smile was perfectly matched by Ben’s intensity. The total focus of a man who knew that he had found everything he ever wanted in the world and he would do whatever was needed to protect, nourish and nurture that relationship.

Their wedding was a relatively simple affair, and all the more beautiful for it. Close friends and family gathered among the rocks at the Ulladulla beach for a meaningful ceremony followed by the reception at the beachside Mollymook Surf club.

Despite concerns about the weather and high winds, the afternoon sun shone from a deep blue sky with just a hint of clouds on the horizon, promising an epic sunset. The wind died down to a gentle, cooling whisper which complimented the sound of the surf breaking against the rocks behind them.

That idyllic scene alone was enough to convince anyone that the Universe was smiling on their union, but for these two passionate conservationists who make their living caring for the environment, it seemed the Universe wanted to underline it’s thoughts on the day. Not to mention, Leslie & Ben channelled their passion for the environment into their day making it a waste free wedding.

As we got the post ceremony family photographs underway, on the rocky shoreline a cry went up from Leslie. We all turned to face the sea to find that two large pods of dolphins had chosen that moment to play in the surf so close to shore that you almost felt you could reach out and touch them.

We stopped for a while to watch the show as they played in the waves directly in front of us and surfed for seemingly no other reason than to gate crash the wedding and join the party.

It was a magical moment and one that perfectly mirrored the sheer joy on Ben and Leslie’s faces.

Then as the Dolphins moved on and we started to reorganise ourselves for our family photos the Universe had one last parting gift. With a whoosh and burst of spray, a whale wondered past surfacing out to sea almost directly in front of the wedding party and signalling it’s presence with a spray of steam from its blowhole as it took a breath and prepared to move on.

Anyone who has shot with me will know I’m seldom lost for words when on the job, but I don’t think I have ever seen an entire bridal party, let alone myself, speechless just a few moments after a ceremony.

We paused to take in a truly magical moment in a truly magical wedding. People think that as photographers we love our jobs for the art we produce. That is a part of it, but for me my love of this job stems from meeting people like Leslie and Ben and experiencing moments like these. Their wedding will join those other snippets in time from my career that will live in my memory for evermore just as I hope these images will live forever in Ben and Leslie’s lives and perhaps one day in the lives of their children and grandchildren.

I hope that long after we are all gone, these images might help preserve a family legend of the day when the Universe itself seemed to smile down on two people and say: “Yep…. You two were made for each other.”
