A Dose of Photography Inspiration at the Sydney Aperture Australia Conference

It was a first for Andy & I to be in the crowd at a conference, usually we’re the event photographers haha. At the start of the year when setting our goals, we made knowledge, development and training a priority to benefit ourselves and the business. After some research, I found the Aperture Australia Photography Conference in Sydney and with it’s incredible line-up of speakers I didn’t hesitate in booking our first photography conference.

In addition to attending the event, I also won the VIP competition including VIP front row tickets, dinner with the speakers and sponsors and guaranteed spots in the breakout workshops! What an incredible experience….

The event was hosted by renowned journalist Ray Martin with speakers across a number of fields including: Ray Collins - Oceanic Photographer; Tamara Dean - Photographic Artist; Jasin Boland - Film Stills Photographer; Christian Fletcher - Aust. Landscape Icon; Stephen Dupont - Conflict Photographer; and Ami Vitale - Nat Geo Photojournalist. We were ever inspired by the different genres and really took us back to our roots of photography, the passion, the story, the emotion, the reason why we started in this world - to create art, stories and emotional imagery.

See some of our captures taking in all the amazing speeches in the front row and a little behind the scenes vlog of our experience over the weekend. What a way to finish the financial year!

Behind the Scenes on a Fitness & Branding Studio Day: Brisbane Fitness Photography | Brisbane Corporate Photography

Yesterday was a lot of FUN! After giving up our studio some time ago due to doing a lot of our client work on location, we booked a full day of client work and hired the Fox Street Studio to create some magic.

We had client’s with some fun ideas that we wanted to make a reality and the studio was the perfect place to make it happen. We had fitness competitors, nutritionists for branding and health influencers and created a great array of imagery!

Check out some of the fun below. Andy and I also jumped in for a few fun shots of us too! haha

A big thanks to our helpers on the day - Bella and Dex and Fox Street Studio for a great space. Amazing job to our clients Sam, Gerard, Taylor, Tara and Teanna.

OMA GOSH WHAT A WEEKEND

SURFING IN THE SHADOW OF CYCLONES

With Cyclone Oma causing havoc up and down the Southern Queensland coast this weekend there seemed no better time for my son and I to have a father and son weekend combining our love of surfing and of cameras.

Now when it comes to photography I’m pretty confident saying I know my stuff but when it comes to surfing, while I love both doing it and watching it, I have to be honest and say I’m pretty hopeless at it.

My little boy on the other hand is still learning his camera work but loves his surfing and after only a couple of lessons can go off and catch a wave and unlike his dad actually stay standing riding it to the end.

All that said the set after set of bumper waves crashing up and down the Gold and Sunshine Coasts were well beyond anything we could even pretend to go out in so we decided to stay on dry land, break out the cameras and have a great father and son weekend watching and capturing the action by surfers we can only dream about ever being as good as.

And what a pleasure it was to watch those men and women out among terrifyingly large crashing waves. Saturday was the most dramatic down at Kirra Point and Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast and then Sunday a quieter session up at the Spit at Noosa.

Though while I must say the surfing was impressive, and it is always fantastic to photograph people in their element, what was more impressive to me was my little boy using a big telephoto lens for the first time and shooting fast sports for the first time and nailing some absolutely amazing shots.

No random firing of the camera for him, but careful framing and timing his shots for the best drama. He has owned and been using cameras since he was three. Now at 11 he is becoming a really accomplished young photographer.

As a father there is no greater thing than sharing two of your favourite things with your child and also watching them develop realising with pride that they will, without doubt, one day surpass you at both of them.

So here are my pics….. and my son’s follow below…

And here are a small number of Jack’s….

Celebrating 10 year of marriage

Showing your commitment and love to your partner through marriage is a beautiful thing. Stacey and Jason showed their true commitment for each other by renewing their vows after 10 years of being together. I was fortunate enough to capture this lovely ceremony shared with their closest friends and family overlooking Kangaroo Point.

Having a family wedding on the same day in Brisbane, this was a surprise to the rest of the family that were getting ready for the wedding. So capturing these moments were very special.

Stacey and Jason, congratulations on 10 years of marriage and thank you for sharing this special day with me and allowing me to capture these moments.

Beautifully Simple and Simply Beautiful

There are many different ways of having and celebrating your wedding: the grand affair; the small intimate party with friends; the wild and extravagant adventurers wedding.

Whether you are getting married while skydiving, or in the grandest cathedral and hotel or simply in your own back garden,  the best weddings of all beautifully reflect the two individuals who are becoming one on what should be the most important day of their lives.

We were lucky enough to photograph one such couple, who got their big day absolutely right and created the most beautiful day for them and their family and friends.

For Lindsay and Lachlan the day wasn't about grandeur or pomp or circumstance. It was about family and friends and nature and love.

To many a wedding in a country village hall and a garden party to follow would seem almost too simple but thanks to meticulous planning and Lindsay's creative touch, backed by an army of friends who helped decorate, stage and even brew custom beers for the big day, The day their wedding was a celebration of their love, family and friends and one of the most enjoyable and beautiful weddings of the year for us to photograph.
